Estimate of Captiva Property Value Released
The Lee County Property Appraiser’s Office has released an estimate of $1,282 million for the 2011 total assessed value for nonexempt property on Captiva. After several years of a nationwide decline in property values, the values on Captiva may be leveling off to slightly higher, according to the preliminary estimate from the property
appraiser’s office. By comparison, the final assessed values for Captiva property in 2010 was $1.289 billion, a difference of about $6 million to 7 million.
The taxable value on the 2011 tax roll is still a work in progress and the more complete number will be provided with the certification of taxable value (DR-420)
scheduled to be issued by July 1 by the property appraiser. This more finalized number will be used for purposes of budget preparation and proposed millage rates,
said Mike Mullins, chairman, Captiva Erosion Prevention District (CEDP). Discussion of the CEPD budget was to be held at the regular monthly board
meeting on June 15. CEPD budget public hearings will be held on September 8 and September 22 at the ‘Tween Waters Inn.
There will be a Beach Brief e-mailed by the CEPD in early September.
